What's the Value of Face? Measuring the WTA to Disclose Important Personal Information

报告摘要

Protecting personal information is increasingly important in digital economy, but how much people value important personal information such as facial or travel information is largely unknown. We investigate Chinese people’s willingness-to-accept (WTA) to disclose verfiable facial photos and travel history by providing “take-it-or-leave-it” offers in an online experiment. We find that the estimated value of facial photo is CNY34.14 , which is about 1.3 times the minimum housely wage, in contrast to that of travel history (CNY15.98). Females or people without a bachelor degree are less willing to disclose their facial or travel history information than males or people with a bachelor degree . We also investigate privacy paradox in our context.

报告人简介

孟涓涓，现任北京大学光华管理学院应用经济学系教授，国家自然科学基金杰出青年项目和优秀青年项目获得者，目前任期刊Management Science副主编行为金融学。她的研究专长包括行为经济学，行为金融学等。她的研究成果发表在国外顶级学术期刊上，如American Economic Review, Management Science, Journal of Public Economics, International Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization.
